Role & Responsibilities
• Dispense ophthalmic medications accurately, ensuring patient safety and compliance
• Perform sterile compounding of ophthalmic preparations when required
• Provide expert medication consultation to ophthalmologists and patients
• Advise on dosage, administration, interactions, and side effects specific to eye conditions
• Educate patients on correct eye drop administration and contact lens care
• Monitor, document, and report adverse drug reactions and medication errors
• Manage ophthalmic medication inventory, storage, and timely procurement
• Collaborate with ophthalmologists, nurses, and clinical teams to optimise therapy
• Participate in clinical trials and ophthalmic research activities
• Develop and implement pharmacy protocols related to ophthalmology services
Qualification
• Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited institution
• Valid pharmacist licence in good standing
• Certification in sterile compounding
Experience
• 2–8 years of experience in a pharmacy setting
• Minimum 1 year of experience in ophthalmology-focused pharmacy practice
• Hands-on experience with ophthalmic medications and sterile preparations
Skills
• Strong knowledge of ophthalmic pharmacotherapy and drug interactions
• Expertise in sterile compounding and aseptic techniques
• Excellent clinical communication and counselling skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical environment
• Strong attention to detail and patient safety focus
• Familiarity with DHA regulations and NPCM requirements
