Trainee - Dangerous Goods Compliance
About the Role
Roles & Responsibilities
• Review and verify Dangerous Goods Declarations (DGD) and shipping documents
• Ensure correct classification, labeling, packaging, and placarding as per IMDG Code
• Approve or reject DG shipment bookings based on compliance and safety standards
• Ensure adherence to IMDG Code, SOLAS regulations, Flag State, and Port State requirements
• Perform risk assessments for high-risk cargo including explosives, corrosives, and toxic substances
• Coordinate with shippers, freight forwarders, terminals, and internal operations teams
• Maintain accurate DG approval records in company systems
• Support investigation of DG-related incidents and recommend corrective actions
• Stay updated with changes in DG regulations and industry best practices
Qualification
• B.Sc Chemistry or M.Sc Chemistry
Experience
• Freshers are eligible
• Entry-level opportunity in DG compliance and maritime safety
Skills
• Strong understanding of chemical properties and safety concepts
• Good written and verbal communication skills• Basic documentation and compliance knowledge
• Willingness to learn IMDG Code and maritime safety regulations
• Attention to detail and ability to work with regulatory guidelines
