Job Description
The Pharmacist will manage pharmacy services during assigned working hours and ensure safe medication dispensing in accordance with regulatory and professional standards. The pharmacist works independently in most situations while maintaining communication with senior pharmacists for complex clinical issues. This role involves verifying prescriptions, dispensing medications, providing patient counselling, and supervising assistant pharmacists and pharmacy staff. The pharmacist will also monitor medication safety, support clinical decision-making, and participate in quality improvement initiatives within the healthcare facility. The position requires strong clinical knowledge, leadership capability, and strict adherence to regulatory requirements established by the Department of Health (DOH) in Abu Dhabi.

Responsibilities
Prescription Verification and Medication Dispensing
• Review and verify prescriptions to ensure accuracy, safety, and appropriateness of therapy
• Clarify prescription-related queries with physicians and insurance providers when necessary
• Dispense medications to patients and provide professional counselling on drug use and safety
• Dispense controlled and semi-controlled medications according to Department of Health regulations
• Ensure double-checking procedures are completed before medication is delivered to patients
Medication Safety and Quality Assurance
• Identify and report medication errors or safety risks and take appropriate corrective actions
• Ensure compliance with infection control, patient safety, and healthcare quality standards
• Maintain proper documentation and adherence to pharmacy regulations and policies
Supervision and Team Support
• Provide work direction and supervision to assistant pharmacists and pharmacy staff
• Train newly recruited pharmacy staff and supervise them during their probation period
• Provide professional support and guidance to junior pharmacists regarding drug-related queries
Operational and Leadership Duties
• Manage pharmacy services during assigned shifts and be available for emergency on-call duties if required
• Carry out responsibilities of the Assistant Chief Pharmacist when necessary
• Participate in quality improvement activities and pharmacy performance monitoring
• Advise physicians on medication equivalents or substitutes when appropriate
• Monitor pharmaceutical indicators to ensure quality medication use
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
• Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or equivalent degree from a recognized institution
Professional Licensing:
• Valid pharmacist license from the home country
• Department of Health (DOH) license to practice pharmacy in Abu Dhabi, UAE
Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in an acute care healthcare facility
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong clinical pharmacy knowledge and medication management expertise
• Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic
• Knowledge of medical ethics and healthcare regulations
• Leadership skills for supervising pharmacy staff
• Basic computer literacy for pharmacy documentation and systems
