Job Description
The Senior Pharmacist will be responsible for managing pharmacy services during assigned working hours while ensuring the safe dispensing of medications and compliance with regulatory standards. The role involves supervising assistant pharmacists and pharmacy staff, verifying prescriptions, counselling patients, monitoring medication safety, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements. Responsibilities
Prescription Review and Medication Dispensing
• Review and verify all aspects of prescriptions before dispensing medications
• Clarify prescription-related queries with physicians and insurance providers when necessary
• Dispense medications to patients while providing appropriate counselling and guidance
• Ensure accurate dispensing of controlled and semi-controlled medications according to regulatory requirements
• Ensure double-checking procedures are followed before medications are delivered to patients
Medication Safety and Compliance
• Identify, report, and respond to medication errors or safety-related risks
• Maintain compliance with pharmacy regulations and Department of Health (DOH) requirements
• Ensure strict adherence to healthcare policies related to infection control, patient safety, and patient care
Supervision and Staff Training
• Provide work direction and supervision to assistant pharmacists and related staff
• Train newly recruited pharmacy staff and supervise them during probation periods
• Support junior pharmacists by answering drug-related queries and providing professional guidance
Operational and Leadership Responsibilities
• Manage pharmacy operations during assigned working hours
• Carry out responsibilities of the Assistant Chief Pharmacist when required
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and pharmacy service evaluations
• Advise physicians on medication substitutes or therapeutic equivalents when appropriate
• Monitor pharmaceutical indicators and ensure quality standards are maintained
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution
Professional Licensing:
• Valid license to practice as a pharmacist in the home country
• Department of Health (DOH) license to practice pharmacy in Abu Dhabi, UAE
Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in an acute care healthcare facility
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong clinical knowledge of medications and pharmaceutical practices
• Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic
• Strong understanding of medical ethics and professional pharmacy standards
• Ability to supervise and train pharmacy staff
• Basic computer literacy skills for pharmacy systems and documentation
