Job Description
As an IP Medical Coder at NMC Royal Hospital, you will assign ICD, CPT, and DRG codes for inpatient cases, review physician documentation, abstract clinical data, and ensure compliance with coding regulations. You will also mentor junior coders and collaborate with clinicians to improve documentation quality.

Responsibilities
• Assign accurate ICD-9 / ICD-10-CM / CPT / HCPCS / DRG codes for diagnoses and procedures based on clinical documentation
• Ensure final diagnoses and procedures documented by physicians are valid, complete, and compliant with HAAD regulations
• Abstract relevant information from health records to identify secondary complications and co-morbidities
• Review medical records for documentation consistency and adequacy
• Compute and assign correct DRG coding for all inpatient cases
• Provide training and guidance to coders and Medical Records Technicians on coding standards and regulations
• Analyze physician documentation to ensure correct Evaluation & Management (E&M) level assignment using CPT codes
• Ensure coding compliance with HAAD guidelines and other regulatory requirements
• Provide feedback to physicians on coding discrepancies or documentation gaps
• Stay up-to-date with latest coding systems, versions, and directives
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of Department
OSH & Compliance Responsibilities:
• Comply with all Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) and infection control policies
• Maintain familiarity with emergency and evacuation procedures
• Report hazards, incidents, and near misses; assist in risk assessments
• Follow waste management policies and utilize appropriate PPE

Required Qualification
• Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health Sciences or related field
• Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience
• Valid certification:
 – Certified Coding Associate (CCA) – AHIMA, or
 – Certified Professional Coder (CPC) – AAPC
• Proficiency in MS Office and other computer applications
• Excellent written and oral English communication skills
