General Practitioner - Geriatric Care
About the Role
Role & Responsibilities
• Conduct comprehensive geriatric assessments including physical, cognitive, emotional, and functional evaluations
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions commonly seen in elderly patients
• Develop and implement individualized care plans addressing medical, psychological, and social needs
• Monitor and manage polypharmacy with a focus on medication safety and appropriateness
• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians, and social workers
• Provide preventive care, health education, and lifestyle counselling to elderly patients and their caregivers
• Manage age-related conditions such as dementia, osteoporosis, falls, frailty, incontinence, and chronic pain
• Maintain accurate medical documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory and clinical standards
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuous medical education activities
Qualification
• Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Geriatrics or equivalent qualification
• Eligibility for medical practice registration in Oman
Experience
• 4–8 years of relevant clinical experience in geriatric or general practice
• Experience managing elderly patients with multiple comorbidities is preferred
Skills
• Strong clinical expertise in geriatric medicine and chronic disease management
• Excellent patient counselling and caregiver communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams
• Sound clinical judgement with a patient-centred approach
