Working across Royal Darwin Hospital and Palmerston Regional Hospital, this role exposes doctors to complex trauma, tropical medicine, infectious diseases, and Indigenous health presentations unique to Northern Australia.
Job Description
Royal Darwin Palmerston Hospitals are seeking Residents / Senior Residents (SHOs) to join the Division of Emergency Medicine across two sites: the Emergency & Trauma Centre at Royal Darwin Hospital and Palmerston Regional Hospital.
Key Features of the Role:
• Location: Darwin, Northern Territory
• Employer: Royal Darwin Palmerston Hospitals – Division of Emergency Medicine
• Work across two hospital sites
• 38 hours per week
• 3–4 hours protected teaching per week
• 7 weeks annual leave

• 24-hour access to investigations
• ED-based CT scanners and ultrasonography
Responsibilities
• Provide emergency medical care under consultant supervision
• Manage acute trauma and medical emergencies
• Participate in resuscitation and emergency procedures
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including allied and mental health services
• Attend structured teaching and training sessions
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation
Clinical Environment
• 36 Emergency Medicine consultants
• 50 registrars
• 50 residents
• 200 emergency nurses
• Tertiary referral centre covering over 1 million square kilometres
• Unique case mix including high rates of:
• Acute rheumatic fever
• Tuberculosis
• Blunt and penetrating trauma
• Young population (median age 32)
Required Qualifications
• MBBS or equivalent
• Eligibility for AHPRA registration
• Suitable for Resident / SRMO Level 2–5
• Emergency Medicine experience preferred

• Ability to work in high-acuity environments
• Strong clinical assessment and procedural skills
• Interest in trauma and tropical medicine

• Commitment to 12-month contract preferred
Salary Insights
• Resident/SRMO Year Level 2–5: $106,467 – $118,703 per annum
• Base salary only (penalties not included)
• Competitive additional allowances may apply
