Job Description
• Position: Emergency Department Medical Officer (EDMO)
• Location: Sunshine Hospital / Footscray Hospital, Melbourne VIC
• Employment Type: Fixed Term, Full-Time / Part-Time (August 2026 commencement)
• Salary: HM12–HM20 + Superannuation + Salary Packaging
• Department: Emergency Medicine

• Work across high-volume Emergency Departments (110,000+ and 40,000+ annual presentations)
• Access to 500+ bed New Footscray Hospital facility
• State-of-the-art ED with resuscitation bays, fast-track streaming and short stay units
• 8-bed Mental Health & AOD Hub (mid-2026)
• Active on-floor Consultant supervision 16+ hours/day, 7 days/week
• Weekly structured teaching and strong education support
• Opportunity to pursue ACEM Foundational Emergency Medicine Training Program (FEMTP)
• Research opportunities via Joseph Epstein Centre for Emergency Medicine Research

Responsibilities
• Provide high-quality clinical assessment, investigation and management of ED patients
• Consult with Emergency Physicians or Senior Registrars for patient care decisions
• Ensure compliance with National Emergency Access Targets and hospital KPIs
• Perform duties in accordance with Western Health policies and legislation
• Communicate effectively with community healthcare providers for discharged patients
• Participate in multidisciplinary teamwork within ED and Short Stay Unit

Required Qualifications
• Medical qualification recognised in Victoria, Australia
• General or Provisional Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• If limited registration, minimum supervision level 2 required
• Clinical competence appropriate to role level
• Strong teamwork and communication skills

Educational Requirements
• Recognised medical degree eligible for Victorian registration
• Eligibility for AHPRA registration (General or Provisional)
• Commitment to ongoing professional development

Experience and Skills
• Minimum 3 years clinical experience (preferably 2+ years in Australia or similar system)
• At least 3 months Emergency Department experience (preferred)
• Interest in pursuing Emergency Medicine career pathway
• Ability to manage high patient volumes efficiently
• Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making skills

• As per Australian medical employment standards
• Must meet eligibility criteria for medical registration in Victoria
