Job Description
• Position: Career Medical Officer (CMO) – Part Time or Casual
• Location: Dubbo Private Hospital, Dubbo & Central NSW
• Employment Type: Part-Time / Casual
• Department: Medical Specialists (Healthcare & Medical)
• Reports to: Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) and Nurse Unit Manager

Responsibilities
• Conduct detailed history taking and physical examinations as requested
• Document findings and communicate effectively with VMOs
• Order and interpret investigations
• Prescribe medications and initiate treatment plans
• Provide structured clinical handover at shift commencement and completion
• Initiate and review discharge planning from Day 1 of admission
• Attend medical emergency calls
• Coordinate patient transfers to Dubbo Base Hospital when required
• Liaise with General Practitioners and VMOs
• Counsel patients and relatives appropriately
• Arrange discharge medications in advance
• Complete death documentation and coroner referrals where applicable
• Submit notifiable disease forms and adverse drug reaction reports
• Participate in hospital meetings and mandatory education programs
Principal Procedural Skills
• Venipuncture and IV cannulation
• Airway management
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Defibrillation
• Intramuscular injections
• Safe administration of IV drugs, fluids and blood products
• Suturing, wound care and bandaging
• Nasogastric tube insertion
• Bladder catheterisation (non-instrumental)
Required Qualifications
• Current unrestricted registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• Demonstrated clinical and procedural competence for CMO duties
• Ability to work rotating roster and on-call shifts
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Effective teamwork in multidisciplinary environments
• Sound organisational and time management abilities
Educational Requirements
• Recognised medical degree eligible for AHPRA registration
• Ongoing participation in mandatory training and CPD activities
Experience and Skills
• Previous experience in a similar private hospital role (desirable)
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Clinical decision-making and prioritisation skills
• Professional documentation and reporting capabilities
• Fully immunised with proof of COVID-19 vaccination (desirable)
