Basic Physician Trainee

Roles & Responsibilities
• Provide effective medical services to patients under supervision
• Develop expertise in medical practice in inpatient and outpatient settings
• Rotate through medical departments, gaining increasing clinical autonomy
• Clinically assess patients, including consultation, history-taking, examination, and formulation of diagnosis and management plans
• Discuss diagnoses and management plans with patients, families, or carers
• Document patient progress and prescribe medications tailored to patients’ needs
• Transfer patient care and interpret investigations
• Assess and manage acutely unwell patients and perform important procedures

Qualification
• MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia
• Eligibility for or current registration as a Basic Physician Trainee with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
• Intent to obtain Fellowship of the RACP

Experience
• Demonstrated recent relevant experience in clinical medicine
• Proven ability to apply clinical knowledge in practical situations with competing priorities
• Demonstrated teamwork, time management, and problem-solving skills in a clinical setting

Skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Commitment to ongoing learning, teaching, research, and quality improvement
• Ability to work in a complex clinical environment and with a multidisciplinary team
• Strong clinical knowledge and leadership in medicine

About The Company
The St George BPT Network offers training positions in St George Hospital, Sutherland Hospital, Shoalhaven Hospital, and Coffs Harbour Hospital. These teaching hospitals, affiliated with UNSW, provide exposure to a wide range of medical cases. Trainees will benefit from a comprehensive 3-year training program, with mentorship and learning opportunities, and have access to diverse clinical experiences. The program targets clinical skill development and professional growth, aiming to prepare trainees for entry into an Advanced Training program.
