Pathology Assistant CSR

About the role

Maintenance of a safe working environment by the cleaning of work benches, equipment and sinks within the laboratory.

General laboratory duties including but not limited to receipt and storage of specimens; registration of requests into the laboratory information system; timely and accurate preparation of specimens for local testing; packaging and transport of specimens to referral laboratories; receipt, storage, and distribution of pathology consumables; other laboratory duties as requested by the CSR Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, or their delegates.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Availability to work all shifts on the 24/7 CSR roster in a relieving role
  • An established history of positive team work, respectful behaviour and above average attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to comply with controlled documentation and to work conscientiously and accurately with minimal local supervision
  • Well-developed communication skills both written and verbal and the demonstrated ability to work positively and respectfully with clients, colleagues, vendors and service providers
  • A working knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn, all aspects of pre-analytical specimen processing and inventory control.
  • Computer skills, data/request entry skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, and the ability to use or to quickly learn a Laboratory Information System such as Auslab and an integrated electronic Medical Record system

Qualifications, registrations, and other requirements

  • Mandatory qualifications - Nil required
  • While not mandatory, a Certificate III in Pathology Assistance or higher would be well regarded
  • The candidate will be required to stand for the majority of the shift, up to 8 hours or more at times, and undertake some manual handling of eskies and parcels with bending and lifting required

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

  • It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
  • Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to an HHS, or HHS to department).
